The Word became a human being and, full of grace and truth, lived among us. We saw his glory, the glory which he received as the Father’s only Son. John 1:14
It’s really hard for me to start explaining who Jesus is to you. So, let me start with the basics: He was born to a virgin named Mary (Matthew 1:18-25); He was sent by the Father to come and die for our sins (John 3:16-17); And better yet, He dwelt among men and women showing them signs and wonders (1 John 4:9). He performed miracles like raising this man named Lazarus from the dead (John 11:38-44), and letting the blind see (Mark 8:22-25). He befriended those who didn’t deserve it, like tax collectors (Matthew 9:9-13) and outcasts like this guy named Zacchaeus (Luke 19:1-10). He met a woman at a well and completely changed her life that had once been ridden with sin and pain (John 4:1-42). Not only that, but He healed another woman from a blood problem that had consumed most of the years’ of her life, and that was only with one touch (Luke 8:43-48). His life included stopping a storm (Matthew 8:23-27), walking on water (Matthew 14:22-23), and turning water into wine (John 2:1-11). The miracles are significant and abundant in the scriptures! But His purpose was to come and die for us. He was beaten, bruised, and mocked for us (John 19); And enduring all of that pain, He carried His cross to a hill and died for us (John 19). But on the third day He was risen from the dead (John 20)!
Friend, there’s so much more I could write and express about the very character of Jesus. Society will always give you the counterfeit to who He is, but I want to encourage you. There is a real God who genuinely loves you.Without Christ my identity is selfish, confused, and insecure. But with Christ, my life is made whole. I’ve tried throwing money and time at things to try and find worth, but I came up empty each time. The greater longing in our hearts is meant to be filled by the very person who created us. People might be telling you one thing right now, but He wants to tell you something much different. Who you are in Christ is much greater than what any person or thing will tell you. He wants to call you friend, beloved, beautiful one, and whole. He wants to help pick up your broken pieces and put you back together. He knows your absolutely worst, and yet loves you anyway.
On every corner there’s someone telling you who you need to be, how you need to be, and what you can do to fix it. You might be trying to label yourself and confirm your identity into a stigma that is ran by false ideas. It’s a hard life to live, I know. But can I encourage your wandering heart? There is someone who knows you fully and yet loves you deeply. He loves all the mixed up pieces, the flaws, and the hurt. Jesus is here to help us stop searching mindlessly. He doesn’t want your perfect Pinterest-life or your Instagrammed-heart, He just wants you.
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 1 John 3:1
Maybe you’ve never heard of Him; Maybe you’re in a place of confusion; Maybe you’ve been hurt by other Christians and even the church; Or maybe you once knew Him and forgot what the touch of His love feels like – it doesn’t matter where you fall on that spectrum, all that matters is how you get to the feet of Him. I don’t know your past and I don’t know your name, but I do know that His love is greater than your pain and shame. When you have an authentic encounter with Jesus Christ you won’t be the same. He is the reason I and so many others wake with peace and joy. I started this blog and began to invest in a community like this because I can’t stop talking about Him and His goodness. Every single day I find a new reason to let my worship break the atmosphere, and reach towards heaven. Everyday I take time to rest in His presence and He never fails me. He always there continuing to show up even in the places I think He would least be. The more I am filled with His grace and peace, the more I have to pour out to others. On the bad days, He’s there. On my best days, He’s there. He extended His arms for us in a selfless act of love, so we might give our lives to Him in devotion.
When we fight life apart from Christ, the world always feels heavier. There is no peace within, and we search for things that only lead to more frustration, confusion, and problems. It’s difficult to see part our own needs, so we continue to live in a cycle that coddles those feelings with actions that only pacify our lives. But when you come to a place of feeling like there is more that is when He longs for your invitation into your heart.
There is not enough words in this world to express how much I love living a life with Christ. I couldn’t imagine living any other way, because it’s all I’ve ever known. When my life seems out of control, I look to Him. When I get confused or frustrated, I look to Him. He has never failed me, and I have the confidence to know He won’t.
Friend, if you don’t know Jesus Christ and have a nudge on your heart to know more, please reach out. Let’s talk more about who He is and who He can be for you. He’s waiting with arms wide open.
