Behind Dropping Umbrellas
I’ve always said my perfect day is in mid-Fall, overcast skies and a chance of rain in the forecast. The feeling that rain has and the power it posses, is one of my favorite things that the good Lord created. Rain helps the fields and flowers grow, it washes off dirt, and it keeps the pollen off cars during allergy season (thank goodness!). It’s wonderful to dreamily look at through your window as it pours down, and it’s even better napping weather with a thunderstorm. But all of those romanticized feelings are suddenly washed away if you find yourself on the other side of the window in the downpour. I can’t count the number of times I’ve been caught in the rain with no rain jacket and most definitely no umbrella. Rain drenches everything in its path, and no matter how quickly you think you can run, it always seems to catch up quicker.
The name, Dropping Umbrellas, symbolizes a powerful analogy – umbrellas are a symbol of those things that hinder our lives: fear, worry, impatience, doubt, addiction, insecurity, anxieties, and even perfection. Creating a space to drop those “umbrellas” has been at the forefront of my heart for a few years. I want women to come here and be encouraged to know their flaws and imperfections are not things they always to feel or be. When we filter our life through Christ, we are happier, healthier and whole.
Dropping Umbrellas Verse
Let us strive to know the Lord. His appearance is as sure as the dawn. He will come to us like the rain, like the spring showers that water the land. Hosea 6:3 (HCSB)
I had just walked through a tough desert season, and desperately needed my soul to be refreshed. I was studying the book of Hosea and Hosea 6:3 jumped off the page. It instantly watered my soul and became a life verse. Each time rain is mentioned in the Bible it is in relation to a blessing. In this passage, God was blessing Israel and we see His love showering His people, and His desire for them to turn back to Him. I wanted to root Dropping Umbrellas in Hosea 6:3 so we can be reminded of God and His blessings. He is chasing us down and coming to us like rain. Rain is a blessing that brings healing, restoration, love, grace, mercy and hope.
Dropping Umbrellas Mission
The mission for this community is that we have the courage to leave our umbrellas at the door. Maybe your umbrella of fear, anger, or loneliness keeps you from realizing your full potential in Christ. Maybe it’s a combination of worry and doubt, rejection or pain – whatever your umbrella is made of, it’s not meant to reign over you. Learning to let down our umbrellas takes courage, strength, and reassurance in Him. He is ready to wash you in His rain, sister!
Join the community and come chase after His rain – you won’t regret forgetting the umbrella.
